About us
Traditional approaches isolate issues. We see them as connected: a shock to food systems ripples into economic instability, which affects health, and so on. Human Security United is dedicated to advancing a holistic vision of security, one that recognizes food, economic, health, environmental, educational, and personal security as interconnected and mutually reinforcing. We work across sectors and borders to foster resilience, equity, and dignity for all people.
Human Security United is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that addresses security concerns at the root causes, focusing on an expansive list of human security pillars.
Mission:
Human Security United is a California-based 501(c)(3) public-benefit organization dedicated to safeguarding every dimension of human security, health, economic, environmental, personal, community, political, and peace. We fuse rigorous research, education, and policy work with hands-on programs that end homelessness, fight hunger, advance racial and climate justice, protect human rights, support refugees and justice-involved individuals, expand healthcare access, foster economic empowerment, prevent violence, promote disarmament and counterterrorism, and harness “AI for good.” From crisis response to long-term resilience, we help people and the planet thrive without borders, barriers, or exclusions.
Vision:
We envision a world where every person lives in dignity and safety, free from fear, want, and injustice. Human Security United strives for a future where communities are resilient, inclusive, and empowered, and where human rights, peace, and shared prosperity transcend borders.
Our Values
-
Dignity for All
We affirm the inherent dignity and worth of every human being, regardless of nationality, race, status, identity, or circumstance. -
Equity and Justice
We confront structural inequality and systemic oppression. Our work is rooted in racial, economic, environmental, and social justice. -
Solidarity over Charity
We partner with, not for, communities. We believe in co-creating solutions that uplift lived experience and local leadership. -
Nonviolence and Peacebuilding
We commit to nonviolence in principle and practice. We strive to build a world where peace is more than the absence of war—it is the presence of justice. -
Interdependence
Human and planetary well-being are inseparable. We act on the understanding that security, health, climate, and justice are deeply interconnected. -
Liberation through Knowledge
We believe research and education must serve freedom, not domination. We prioritize knowledge that dismantles colonial legacies and amplifies marginalized voices. -
Integrity and Accountability
We are transparent, honest, and responsible to the people we serve, our partners, and each other. We measure success by real-world impact, not rhetoric. -
Innovation for Good
We harness technology (including AI) for social good, always guided by ethics, equity, and the public interest. -
Resilience and Hope
In the face of injustice and crisis, we choose hope, persistence, and the long arc of transformation. We believe another world is not only possible—it’s necessary. -
Borderless Compassion
We reject exclusion and nationalism as threats to human security. Our compassion and commitment know no borders.
